Alzheimer's Society

Befriender

Visiting a person with dementia on a regular basis - for 2/3 hours each week or fortnight.

Volunteer befrienders support people with dementia in the local community.  This involves companionship for a person with early-stage dementia, helping them to take part in social and recreational activities.  Your involvement will help to improve well being and help to reduce the isolation so often experienced by people with dementia.

Research Network Volunteer

Alzheimer's Society Research Network provides a groundbreaking opportunity for people who have experience of dementia to influence and monitor research projects. Therefore, this opportunity is only available to people with dementia or carers of people with dementia (currently or at some time in the recent past). With the support of the society you will: Contribute to the two yearly setting of priority topics for research. Read, prioritise and comment of research applications. There are also optional extra opportunities, which include: Taking part in the award panels that decide which shortlisted applicants should be funded. Monitoring ongoing research projects funded by Alzheimer's Society.
